Operating rooms are heavily reliant on surgical lights. They let surgeons have a clear view of what they're working on. If you have these lights in your OR and wish for them to work great for as long as possible, then take the following care steps whenever you can.

Clean Housing Units Regularly

Surgical lights are housed in protective cases to keep them free of possible damage. These housing units can get dirty even if you have a sterile operating room. You can keep the housing unit in great shape by cleaning it regularly.

Then things like dirt, debris, and other substances can't wear down the outer layer of the housing unit. You want to clean this unit as consistently as you can. This step also will help keep the surgical lights in your operating room completely sterile, which is important whenever a procedure is being performed.

Inspect Mounting Hardware

A lot of surgical lights in operating rooms are mounted to clear up space. This hardware goes through a lot of actions when the surgical lights are moved, so you want to inspect it regularly as to spot problems early on.

This inspection doesn't have to be a time-consuming process. You just want to carefully examine the mounting hardware to make sure there aren't signs of excessive wear.

If there is, then you may need to replace components. You'll then have confidence your surgical lights will remain fixed and not suffer damaging impacts from falling.

Understand When to Replace Lights

Even though surgical lights are well designed and built to last, they will eventually reach the end of their life cycle. You want to know when this point is because then you can respond with a replacement at the right time. Your operating room will never be without working surgical lights because of your attentiveness.

Red flags that could mean a replacement is on the horizon include flickering lights, lack of energy efficiency, and patches of dark spots. If any of your surgical lights experience one or a couple of these issues, plan ahead and get some replacement lights.

Surgical lights provide optimal illumination in the medical field, which is key for many operations. You can minimize complications that happen with your OR's surgical lights by knowing which care steps can set you up for longevity. Even basic cleaning goes a long way in keeping these lights working their best.
